Sports activities

The Gard has managed to preserve the atmosphere and the richness of the outdoor markets in the purest Provençal tradition from Uzège to Cévennes passing through the Rhone Valley. You will have the choice between fifty day or night markets. Uzes offers one of the most beautiful markets in France with its 360 exhibitors and 70 producers.

The vineyards

No longer "cheap wine", the Gard now offers wines in full qualitative ascent through five vineyards which each assert their original personality with one of the strongest organic production in France . La Bastide de Canaules is located right in one of these in the Piémont Cévenol. With no less than 14 medals won at the Paris Agricultural Show, the winemakers around Canaules and Argentières are undoubtedly the big winners of this 2019 edition. We invite you to taste these wines at Saint-Jean-de-Serres, at Domaine Terres d'Hachène, Domaine de l'Orviel or even Domaine de Roux, all located less than 10 minutes from La Bastide de Canaules.

Roman Culture

The Gard has the richest Roman heritage in France with the best-preserved arenas in the world in Nîmes. But also, the Pont Gard, the highest known aqueduct bridge in the Roman world which allowed Nîmes to be supplied with 40,000 m3 of water by an aqueduct which took its source 50 km north in Uzès. Also, La Maison Carrée in Nîmes, the Camp de César in Laudun-l'Ardoise and many other sites to visit ...

CHARACTER VILLAGES

There are many villages of character in the Gard that you will discover during your walks around. Near Canaules & Argentières, we advise you to visit Sauve, a medieval village, very lively, with many small stalls where artisans will sell you their products. On the top of the village, you can explore the Sea of Rocks, a magical spectacle crossed by many paths in the center of which stands the Château de Roquevaire. Vézénobres is one of the most beautiful medieval hilltop village in France, the ruins of its castle dominates the village and will offer you a magnificent view of the Cévennes and the Garrigue. You can also visit the old town of Anduze or a little further Uzès, which has perfectly restored its buildings with a rich past or even Sommières and its fortress, its ramparts and its many other traces of the past.
